Currently, in the construction of roads and railways underground in urban areas, non-circular cross-sectional tunnels such as rectangular and elliptical shapes are being adopted in order to avoid nearby existing infrastructure and underground structures and to reduce the environmental impact during construction. However, when installing non-circular sections, when using the conventional "circular ring type" segment assembly device, the challenges were that the space for soil drainage equipment and the like cannot be made larger than the circular section, and that the shape and weight of each segment piece are significantly different, making installation and other operations difficult.

To solve these problems, we have developed a segment assembly device for non-circular cross-section shield tunnels using a "rack and pinion drive monorail type." In addition, a full-size segment assembly test was conducted to hold and assemble the segments (10 tons of weight per piece), confirming that the operability and driving stability are sufficiently practical.

This time, by making the monorail rack a non-circular shape that matches the cross-sectional shape, we can provide a large space that can be used effectively.
